The Park City, Utah March for Science, Saturday April 22.
The Park City March for Science will kick off at 9 AM at the Wasatch Brew Pub parking lot at 250 Main Street. We will march down Main St. then circle back up Swede Alley to the Brew Pub Lot, where we will have a short slate of speakers. From there, the event will move down to the Santy Auditorium at the Park City Library where some of Utah's top scientists will give presentations on a range of topics from the climate to cardiovascular research, all geared towards our next generation of scientists: our youth. Join the Facebook Event here.
Our speakers:
Chris Johnson :: Founding Director of Science, Computing, and Imaging Institute (SCI), or-how big data imaging is changing EVERYTHING. And... it's fun to look at.
Miriah Meyer :: Astrophysicist and USTAR Rockstar. A Ted Fellow, MIT list of 100 most creative people in tech, science writer for Chicago Tribune, post doc research fellow at Harvard. Dare we say Whiz Kid? (One's 30s is still childhood to us).
Rob Davies :: Utah's darling for Climate Science. Rob is a Physicist at Utah State University, and State Coordinator and Utah Climate Center. He is also co-creator of The Crossroads Project, a performance art and communication project weaving together information, imagery and music to effect more visceral communication of the challenges ahead.
Katharine Coles :: Utah Poet Laureate, Director of the Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute, and co-director of the Utah Symposium in Science and Literature. Much of Katharine's striking poetry weaves through the connected olds of science, our natural surroundings, and a keen use of language to bring our consciousness alive.
Rob MacLeod :: Associate Director, Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI) Associate Director, Comprehensive Arrhythmia Research and Management (CARMA). Those are some hefty acronyms... Rob also specializes in explaining very complex systems to those of us who may not have as many acronyms in our quiver.
Dan Moench :: President of Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE). Nominated by the Obama Administration at a Washington, DC conference as one of 50 finalists to receive the award "Champion of Change" for his work on global warming.
